You’re an analytical and creative thinker with an eye for improving or optimizing a system’s functionality but want to take your skills to new heights. Mines’ Operations Research with Engineering graduate program allows you to take that first step. This interdisciplinary program will elevate your knowledge of chemical processes and manufacturing, socioeconomic, mechanical and mining systems by giving you hands-on research experiences and the freedom to explore new techniques. Under the leadership of top faculty and key industry and government partnerships, you will be well-suited to find success in your professional life.

Requirements and Costs

Master’s Non-Thesis

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, applied science or computer science with a grade-point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale is preferred
  • Statement of purpose letter: present your professional and personal goals
  • Resume/CV
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • All admitted graduate students must submit GRE scores* prior to receiving an admissions decision. Mines accepts GRE scores* from tests taken within five years of the date of entry
  • GRE with quantitative reasoning section score of 160 or higher preferred*
  • The GRE requirement may be waived for Mines undergraduate students*
  • For international applicants or applicants whose native language is not English, please review the ENGLISH PROFICIENCY requirement tab 
  • Two prerequisites are required prior to beginning the degree program: Programming Concepts (or equivalent) and Data Structures (or equivalent)

Doctorate

*Due to Covid-19, students applying for master’s non-thesis and certificate programs for spring 2021 and fall 2021 are not required to submit GRE scores.

MASTER OF SCIENCE – Non-Thesis

  • Minimum 30 total credit hours

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY

  • 72 credit hours of coursework
  • Minimum 24 hours of research credits
  • Successfully pass qualifying exams
  • Complete and defend thesis
