Welcome to Mines!
On behalf of the Graduate Student Government
The Graduate Student Government (GSG) welcomes you to Mines! We hope to be your resource and ally during your time here.
GSG has a lot of resources for you. We are here to make things fun with a series of events, including a New Student Welcome event and Grad BBQ. We are here to support you with dedicated grants and resources for graduate students. As the semester continues, we will host a series of workshops, panels and town hall discussions on a variety of graduate student life topics, including an annual symposium focused on graduate students called the Graduate Research and Discovery Symposium (GRADS). We will be sending out emails and updates about all these fun events so watch your inbox and follow our Instagram (@mines_gsg).
Our general council meetings happen every other Monday at 5:15 p.m. (Mountain Time). We discuss current affairs at Mines and make important decisions regarding the graduate student experience. This meeting is open to all graduate students and the date/location, along with all the resources we offer and our contact information, can be found on the GSG website.
We look forward to meeting you. Please reach out anytime if you have any questions and, again, welcome to the Mines community!
Don’t Forget to Register for New Graduate Student Orientation
From the Office of Graduate Studies
Congratulations on your acceptance as a graduate student and welcome to Colorado School of Mines! As you prepare for your transition to Mines, it is important to familiarize yourself with campus resources, learn about important deadlines and responsibilities, meet other students and feel prepared for your first semester.
You will have the opportunity to do all of that at the Spring 2024 New Graduate Student Orientation on Monday, January 8 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. (Mountain Time).
View the Orientation web page for more information. Attendance is optional for those in combined bachelor/masters programs, expected for all grad students new to Mines, and required for those who will serve as Research (RA) or Teaching (TA) Assistants.
We are so glad you chose to join the Oredigger community, and we look forward to welcoming you to campus! In the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
International Student Orientation
Join the International Students and Scholar Services (ISSS) Office for International Student Orientation on Thursday, January 4. This orientation is required for all international students new to Mines, so please make sure you arrive on campus in time to attend orientation.
If you have not received your I-20 or DS-2019 Form, please contact isss@mines.edu.
We look forward to seeing you in Golden soon!
Updates from the Graduate Admissions Office
To ensure a smooth transition to Mines, be sure to complete any outstanding requirements. This includes any final, official documents (i.e. transcripts, test scores, credential evaluations, etc). Official documents must come directly from the university, testing agency or credential evaluator. Documents uploaded to the Applicant Portal by you are not considered official. Failure to submit final, official documents will result in a registration hold on your account for the term following your admission.

Disability Support Services
What is a disability?
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) defines disability as a “physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.” The ADA regulations include both visible and invisible impairments, such as physical and physiological impairments, mental and psychological disorders, intellectual disabilities and specific learning disabilities, among many others.
Disability Support Services (DSS) works collaboratively with students, faculty and staff to minimize barriers and support an accessible campus community. When barriers to access occur, Disability Support Services works one-on-one with students to determine accommodations and facilitate access to programs and services. If you are a student with a disability in need of accommodations, please visit Disability Support Services for more information and to access the online accommodation request form.

You@Mines Resource Portal
From the Office of Student Wellness Promotion & Education
Colorado School of Mines is proud to present the YOU@Mines portal, the first technology of its kind to personalize campus resources to the individual user. It’s as intuitive and informative as social media, but maintains your privacy and anonymity. It’s like Google, if Google knew what interested and worried you every day.
This online portal exists to help Mines students succeed in academics and career readiness, thrive in areas of personal wellness, and matter by finding motivation and involvement. In each of these three core areas, users can take Reality Check quizzes to assess your current strengths and challenges. Based on this secure information, the system serves up on-campus resources, wellness tips, modules and other helpful tools based on your needs. From here, you can save resources, commit to take action and set goals.
Because the portal is so personalized, it adapts to your experience as your stressors, lifestyle and needs change throughout your graduate studies. Moreover, YOU does not have the time and physical restrictions of many other outlets. When the gym closes before your de-stress session, your best friend isn’t answering their phone, or you can’t make an appointment at the Counseling Center on the weekend, YOU is still online and available.
Even before you get to campus, log on to YOU and create a profile to explore the resources available. Add YOU to your list of reliable places to turn when you need to reach out, reflect or refresh.
