Grounded in fundamental physics and a diverse engineering skillset, Mines’ interdisciplinary Quantum Engineering graduate program sets graduates up for success in areas such as physics, materials science, computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics and more. Students in the program will graduate with the skills and knowledge needed to become leaders in this emerging and stimulating field and approach challenges with new and unique perspectives.

Requirements and Costs

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE

  • A bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering field (including EE and computer science), and a college-level linear algebra class
  • Statement of purpose letter: present your professional and personal goals
  • Resume/CV
  • For international applicants or applicants whose native language is not English, please review the ENGLISH PROFICIENCY requirement tab 

MASTER OF SCIENCE Thesis and Non-Thesis

  • A bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering field (including EE and computer science), and a college-level linear algebra class
  • Current Mines students may be able to complete these new degrees concurrently with their BS or as part of a 5 year combined program so need not have received their BS degree to enroll
  • Statement of purpose letter: present your professional and personal goals
  • Resume/CV
  • Current Mines students do not need to submit any letters of recommendation
  • Applicants that are not current Mines students must submit three letters of recommendation
  • For students pursuing the hardware track, previous lab coursework (e.g. in analog electronics) is required as well
  • For students pursuing the software track, a basic knowledge of programming in python or similar is assumed
  • For international applicants or applicants whose native language is not English, please review the ENGLISH PROFICIENCY requirement tab 

MASTER OF SCIENCE (Thesis)

  • 9 credit hours of coursework
  • 12 credit hours of electives
  • 9 thesis credit hours
  • Present and defend thesis

MASTER OF SCIENCE (Non-Thesis)

  • 9 credit hours of coursework
  • 21 credit hours of electives

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE

  • 9 credit hours of coursework
  • 3 credit hours of electives
