Advanced Energy Systems Master’s Non-Thesis
The Advanced Energy Systems (AES) Master of Science, Non-Thesis (MS-NT) degree is a course-based, stand-alone graduate engineering degree targeted for students interested in professional careers in industry, government or non-governmental positions. The MS-NT degree requires 30 credit hours of coursework. Approved elective credit hours must be taken at the graduate level at Mines and are reviewed to ensure that they form a coherent focus for an in-depth energy science and engineering study.

Advanced Energy Systems Doctorate
The PhD degree in Advanced Energy Systems (AES) requires 72 credits. A minimum of 36 coursework credits and 36 research credits must be completed. A minimum of 15 of the 36 credits of required coursework must be taken at Colorado School of Mines, as three core courses plus the three 600-level PhD courses. The AES PhD program is designed as a full-time, four-year program of study for students who have completed a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering.

Advanced Energy Systems Interdisciplinary Program
Colorado School of Mines and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) are at the forefront of a massive shift in the way energy is sourced and consumed worldwide. The Advanced Energy Systems program is creating the next generation of thought leaders to capably and creatively guide this vital energy sector transition. Master’s and doctorate-level researchers will develop the skills and knowledge to address the full complexity of tomorrow’s infrastructure, economic and environmental challenges to support government, academia, nonprofits and private business.
